Can I Lose Weight and Still Drink Beer and Wine?

Lose weight and still enjoy a beer with friends.

DRINK BEER AND LOSE WEIGHT

Would you like to lose weight and still drink Beer and Wine? In our weight loss journey with the Ketogenic Diet we were nervous that we would have to ban beer and wine for life!

To be honest, we enjoyed our occasional husband and wife Friday night getaways without the kids enjoying dinner and a movie with the traditional  stop at a casual lounge. After all, this activity kept us young!

If you have kept up with the articles and did your due diligence researching this amazing Keto diet then you know that the key is to initially

flush your body out of harmful sugars (carbohydrates), reach Ketosis Nirvana and then train your body to rely on healthy fat for energy.

Eating foods in healthy fats has so many amazing benefits as covered in “What is the Ketogenic Diet” that you instantly feel healthier, lighter and stronger. You will feel invigorated and empowered to choose when to “carb up”. The key word here is you get to CHOOSE.

How powerful is that word!?

Once your body is an expert at converting energy from healthy fat then you can participate in the Cyclical ketogenic diet that involves periods of higher-carb refeeds, such as 5 ketogenic days followed by 2 high-carb days.

As stated in Healthlines.com article around the Cyclical Keto Diet:

“Cyclical ketogenic dieting involves adhering to a standard ketogenic diet protocol 5–6 days per week, followed by 1–2 days of higher carb consumption.

These higher-carb days are often referred to as “refeeding days,” as they’re meant to replenish your body’s depleted glucose reserves.

If you undertake a cyclical ketogenic diet, you switch out of ketosis during refeeding days in order to reap the benefits of carb consumption for a temporary period.”

In Laymen’s terms, you can continue to lose weight and now enjoy that bottle of beer or two with the buds or ladies.

For my friends who are skeptical and want to ease in when drinking beer then please find a list below of KETO friendly beers (you can also purchase and stock up on some of my favorites from the SHOP menu):

  1. Corona Premier, Carbs: 2.6 grams, Calories per 12 oz.: 90, ABV: 4%
  2. Michelob Ultra, Carbs: 2.6 grams, Calories per 12 oz.: 95, ABV: 4.2%
  3. Devil’s Backbone Sparkling Ale, Carbs: 2 grams, Calories per 12 oz.: 90, ABV: 4%
  4. North Coast Brewing Co. Scrimshaw Pilsner, Carbs: 2 grams, Calories per 12 oz.: 100, ABV: 4.7%
  5. Lagunitas DayTime IPA, Carbs: 3 grams, Calories per 12 oz.: 98, ABV: 4%

Lose weight and still enjoy an occasional glass of wine.

DRINK WINE AND LOSE WEIGHT

Ladies and Gents, yes you can also lose weight and drink wine! My wife who is a huge wine connoisseur was ecstatic to know she did not have to go cold turkey on wine on the Ketogenic Diet.

Same rules apply as detailed above while executing the Cyclical Keto Form of the Diet. You are allowed two days of carb cycling as long as you maintain 5 days of strict KETO.

Please see below a list of our favorite wines:

  1. CABERNET SAUVIGNON
  2. PINOT NOIR
  3. MERLOT
  4. SANGIOVESE
  5. SAUVIGNON BLANC
  6. ROSÉ
  7. PINOT GRIGIO

Well Keto friends, there you have it! You can lose weight and still have a good time! As always, drink responsibly!

Hi Elviz, thanks for sharing. Good to know you can still enjoy a drink even on a keto diet!

I was wondering, how are you and your wife getting on with sustaining the diet and consuming alcohol? Do you have a case study?

Hi Mike! Thank you for stopping by and I appreciate you taking the time to read the post. With the Ketogenic Diet, after your body has transitioned into this type of diet, you can than participate in the Cyclical form of this diet where you can practice 5 days of strict Keto and 2 days of ingesting a higher carb count! For example, if I average 20-25 grams of carbs a day for 5 days and I want to enjoy a weekend out with the wife or friends then I can up my carb count to 100-150. Naturally, I will find Keto Friendly Beer and Wine that will not break my “carb bank” per day. You can find a solid bottle of beer that has about 2-3 grams and a delicious wine that will be about the same. I have been on the diet for a year now and have maintained my weight after dropping 45 pounds! Hope that helps!

Wow, I’m happy to know your lifestyle. Same here. I also enjoyed our occasional husband and wife Friday night without the kids enjoying dinner or a movie or somewhere peaceful. It’s great to have some wine in such a perfect romantic moment and now I know it won’t harm too much and we can still continue to lose weight. So, thanks for this article.
