Bulletproof; That is the name that I would like you to remember. No it is not the name of a rock band (it actually might be!?), it doesn’t mean to go out and buy a vest for protection or that the Ketogenic Diet will make you invincible. It references how you can lose weight drinking coffee.

Bulletproof inspired by Dave Asprey is the practice of adding butter and MCT Oil into your daily cup of Joe. Sounds crazy right!?

Would you believe me if I told you that you can successfully lose weight by drinking coffee? Well, you can and I encourage you to continue reading.

Ahhhhh, that morning cup of Joe…

Who relates? Waking up at the crack of dawn, wiping your eyes as it adjusts to the dark. Guided by a hint of sunlight; you stumble to the bathroom to jump in the shower.

You pray that the water pressure will do it’s job and wake you up to tackle the day.

After the shower and feeling much refreshed you look at your watch. You just realized that you are short on time and will not have time for a full breakfast.

What are you going to do? You cannot proceed with the rest of your day on an empty stomach. You are in the kitchen about to grab your car keys and you see the coffee pot. AHA coffee! How could you forget!?

I am sure that we all can relate to this occurrence as it happens frequently. We attempt to provide ourselves enough time to enjoy a hearty breakfast. 5 out of 7 times we just rush out the door before we give it another thought.

The times that we do get the luxury to enjoy a coffee while reading the paper, magazine or catching up on emails. We immediately experience the euphoria that the caffeine provides.

Ahhh, in that moment you feel that you can tackle 3 days in one! What if I told you that after reading the rest of this article; you will be more enlightened and encouraged to enjoy that cup of Joe more often.

Wait!? I am adding what to my coffee!

At the 3rd week of our weight loss journey on the Ketogenic diet to lose weight quickly and safely. Our mentor Dave informed us about the process of adding butter, Coconut Oil or MCT Oil to coffee to support Ketosis Aka Bulletproof. “Bulletproof Coffee” was inspired by Dave Asprey.

If you recall, the Ketogenic Diet involves consuming healthy fat while drastically cutting your Carbohydrate intake to train your body to remain in Ketosis.

While in Ketosis your body effectively burns fat for energy which provides a great deal of benefits in addition to losing weight.

Adding butter to coffee provides a healthy fat that provides satiety and helps curb cravings. The fat together with the caffeine from the coffee will give you a boost of energy to start your day. The coconut oil will help produce Ketones that is critical to remain in Ketosis .

The Benefits of Butter or Ghee in Coffee

According to various studies, grass fed butter in coffee has many benefits that include a good source of Vitamin K. Vitamin K helps reduce the risk of heart disease, it provides healthy fats to your body and brain.

It provides an increased sense of alertness and cognitive function. Most importantly it is great source of energy, it trains your body to burn fat all day which is paramount for overweight individuals.

Last but not least adding butter to coffee can be used to replace a meal specifically breakfast when you are on the go.

In Conclusion

The most important question that you are probably asking and would like an answer to is “How does it taste?”. The wife and I started the practice of making Bulletproof coffee after week 3. Guess what!? We still follow the practice to this day.

The coffee is delicious and it is not at all how you may imagine; I am sure you imagine a bitter and salty liquid mix.

Lose weight by drinking coffee

As a couple who has been on the Ketogenic Diet to lose weight safely and quickly for about a year now. We recommend to cook and eat the healthy fats from Eggs, Bacon, Cheese, Avocado among a list of other Keto foods. Drink Bulletproof when you are on the go or need that quick replacement meal.

The keyword here is replacement meal not the only meal as you will still need the nutrition that other Keto foods provide.

If you are looking to make a bulletproof coffee then you are in luck as it is quite easy to make. Just make your coffee as normal using your own personal and favorite brand. Our favorite is Cafe Bustelo as we just love the distinct aroma that it gives off.

Place the coffee in a blender, add two tablespoons of grass fed butter and one tablespoon of coconut oil. Blend until the coffee lightens in color then pour into your favorite cup. If you would like to sweeten it up just a bit then you can add 1 teaspoon of Stevia sugar. Enjoy!

    Oh, this is a very interesting article. Recently, I’m interested int Ketogenic Diet.

    I couldn’t understand the whole concept of this diet but the one I exactly know is that it is a diet method using fat.

    Well, like said in this article, I put some butter in my coffee and it tastes really good 🙂

    Now, I understand why I have to do that for diet. I think the ketogenic diet is really interesting because I can eat oily and delicious food while I’m on a diet.

    I love coffee and drink it every morning. I’ve been looking hard into the keto diet as I need to shed a few extra pounds. I use coconut oil for most of my cooking and will have to try it in my coffee! Thank you for the information!

    Wow! I love coffee and I currently use a moka pot to make mine. I’ve never thought about adding butter or coconut oil though, but if it burns fat faster then I’m all for that!!

    How much would I add for a single cups worth of coffee?

      Hi Mike, thank you for passing by! To answer your question, for a regular cup of coffee you would add two tablespoons of grass fed butter and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil. I like to also add a bit of stevia sugar to give it some sweetness. Try it out!

    Very informative post. I’ve heard about Bulletproof Coffee before but never really looked into before. Oh I can relate when you said Ahhh that morning cup of joe, there’s nothing like that first cup in the morning. I don’t know about butter, but I will try the cocconut oil. If help me lose weight and gives me energy I’m all for it. You advocate eating bacon, eggs, and cheese while most things you read on dieting are against it. Can you elborate little bit more on why you feel these foods are okay. Thanks for the great article.
